SonSublime -
New York's Premier Cuban Charanga Band.
SonSublime is New York’s Top Cuban Charanga orchestra, playing the classic styles of Danzón, Cha-Cha-Cha and Son. SonSublime embraces these classic styles and enhances them with a fresh, energetic sound adored by young and mature dancers alike.
SonSublime's lead singer, Cuban-born Jesse Herrero, has led the band to new heights while maintaining the classical traditions of his native land. Herrero’s singing career began with Mike Perez, one of the key members of SonSublime. In 1972 Jesse joined forces with Mike and his band, Tipica New York. In 1973, legendary, virtuoso Felix (Pupi) Legarretta, violinist, flautist and a member of the Fania All Stars, recruited Jesse into his band, Pupi y Su Charanga.
With the support of his friends, club owners and promoters, in 1975, Jesse Herrero launched his exciting young swinging Charanga band in New York City, under the name Sublime, and the city fell in love with his sound. In 1977 Jesse received a recording contract from TR Records, whose owner was the late Tito Rodriguez, a legendary singer and orchestra leader. Their first hit Coqueta put Sublime on top of the New York City Latin music scene. In 1979 Sublime recorded TTH Recording Inc. (Ten Top Hits) bringing another radio hit: “El Mujeriego”.
Sublime became well established in the music industry. Cuban singer and businessman, Roberto Torres decided to record Jesse Herrero’s Sublime with his label SAR - Guajiro Records. Under SAR - Guajiro Records, Roberto Torres produced “Simplemente” Sublime and “Masitas de Pollo." After ten glorious years of bringing great Charanga music to the scene, Jesse officially dissolved the band in 1985 to pursue other interests in the world of finance.
Fifteen years later, in 2000, after much encouragement from musicians and friends, the group reformed as SonSublime. In March 2001, Jesse Herrero’s own recording label, LASEMCo., released its first recording "Irresistible” under the new name, SonSublime. This was followed by their second recording, the classic "Gran Reserva”, which was released in October 2002 and thier most recent release "Bailando Con SonSublime" in 2006.

Orquesta Broadway, celebrates four decades of continuous devotion to the traditional sounds end styles of Cuban music. Led by the magical flute of Eddy Zervigón, the orchestra was originally founded by the Zervigón brothers (Eddy, Rudy, and Kelvin) and baptized Orquesta Broadway by Catalina Rolón (manager of New York City's popular Palladium nightclub) in 1962, because all of its members lived on or near Broadway. Immediately the bend became the musical sensation at the Palladium and throughout the Big Apple. Zervigón's use of a five-key French wooden flute with excellent high pitched tones set the orchestra's sound apart from all others. The blending of a lead flute with violins and Afro-Cuban percussion and vocals created the successful sound of Orquesta Broadway, which rapidly earned the love of aficionados from all corners of the world.
38 years in the U.S., but remarkably, La Fiesta Del Mamoncillo goes back over 70 years to the 1930's in Havana Cuba. On Sundays Cubans in La Habana would gather together in Los Jardines de la Tropical to dance. The dance was given in a park that had lots of mamoncillo trees in it - some other cultures call them quenepas or limoncillos or just plain mamon. The dance was open to everyone but was mostly attended by Afro-Cubans, because back then, in Cuba, there was a club for the white and mulatto Cubans and another club for the black Cubans. El Club Cubano Interamericano, which was started by mainly Afro-Cubans around 1970, continued that tradition here in the U.S. and 38 years later, they are still going strong.

“Chico Alvarez is a time-traveler. His voice rises as if from old wax records. His diction and intonation have the sweet quality of old Cuban Soneros. On the other hand, the band is slammin' very much in the here and now.” - Luis Moreno, Yahoo Latin Jazz E-Group
