I originally wrote the little script for this and recorded it at the MacDowell Colony, New Hampshire - L.M. Kit Carson (screenplay writer of Paris, Texas) kindly recorded it.
I also had a copy of a film shot some years earlier by Cathy Ward and Eric Wright, which I originally borrowed to create something for promoting the album 'Stories From The City At Night' - I edited the script a little and, after a few false starts, came up with this very simple underscore.
The original idea was that it was like getting in a cab at the end of a long night, the driver sounds like he might be wise, or insane.
I love Kit's voice for this (it's actually slowed down) when we recorded he began by pouring us both a large glass of whisky, It all suddenly seemed a lot easier.
