I Ain't Got Nothin' but The Blues by Duke Ellington
performed by Peter Griggs at Marcel Ferrand's birthday party, 3rd of October, 2009 ...
Ain't got the change of a nickel
Ain't got no bounce in my shoes
Ain't go no fancy to tickle
I ain't got nothing but the blues
Ain't got no coffee that's perking
Ain't got no winnings to lose
Ain't got a dream that is working
I ain't got nothing but the blues
When trumpets flare up
I keep my hair up
I just can't make it come down
Believe me peppie,
I can't get happy
Since my ever loving baby left town
Ain't got no rest in my slumbers
Ain't got no feelings to bruise
Ain't got no telephone numbers
I ain't got nothing but the blues
Prelude in D - Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) played by Peter Griggs at Friedenskirche, Leverkusen - 27th of September, 2009 //// Johann Sebastian Bach (31 March 1685 [O.S. 21 March] 28 July 1750) (Many times simply called Bach) was a German composer and organist whose sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra, and solo instruments drew together the strands of the Baroque period and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, an unrivalled control of harmonic and motivic organisation, and the adaptation of rhythms, forms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France.
Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the Goldberg Variations, the Partitas, the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, the St. John Passion, the Magnificat, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue, the English and French Suites, the Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin, the Cello Suites, more than 200 surviving cantatas, and a similar number of organ works, including the celebrated Toccata and Fugue in D minor and Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor.
Bach's abilities as an organist were highly respected throughout Europe during his lifetime, although he was not widely recognised as a great composer until a revival of interest and performances of his music in the first half of the 19th century. He is now regarded as the greatest composer of the Baroque, and as one of the greatest of all time.

Flamenco embodies a complex musical and cultural tradition. Although considered part of the culture of Spain, flamenco actually originates from one of Spain's regions: Andalusia. However, other areas, mainly Extremadura and Murcia, have contributed to the development of several flamenco musical forms, and a great number of renowned flamenco artists have been born in other territories of the country. It is generally acknowledged that flamenco grew out of the unique interplay of native Arabic, Andalusian, Sephardic, and Gypsy cultures that existed in Andalusia prior to and after the Reconquest. Latin American and especially Cuban influences have also been important in shaping the rumba flamenco form. Flamenco is the music of the gypsies and played in their social community. Andalusian people who grew up around gypsies, and the life, were also accepted as "flamencos".

Guajirita - Bartolome Calatuyud (1882-1973) played by Peter Griggs - Live Performance 27th of September, 2009, Friedenskirche, Leverkusen - Guajirita - Bartolome Calatuyud (1882-1973) played by Peter Griggs Live Performance 27th of September, 2009 Friedenskirche, Leverkusen Bartolomé Calatayud was born on the Spanish island of Mallorca in 1882, where he began his study of the Classical Guitar at an early age under the guidance of Antonio Mestres. He also studied harmony and composition with the great Mallorcan musicologist and composer D. Antonio Noguera. Something of a prodigy, while still in his early teens Calatayud travelled to Valencia on the Spanish mainland, where he met and took lessons from the great maestro, Francisco Tarrega. A personable young man with great love of life and music, Bartolomé was modest about his musical talents, even though he became a renowned performer at a very early age. Giving concerts throughout Spain, France, Switzerland, Portugal and Algiers, he also toured in South America with Spanish Chorus and Dance groups, but he always returned to his native Mallorca. There he established himself as a composer for the guitar and as a teacher, sharing his knowledge with numerous pupils. His Guitar works are inspired by spanish folk traditions, especially from Catalonia ( Classical Spanish Style: Tarntelle, Fandanguillo, Danza, etc.) While he never achieved the status of Tarrega or his other idol, Fernando Sor, Bartolomé Calatayud nevertheless left a prodigious amount of wonderful music as his legacy. He died in 1973 at the age of 91.
In "500 Years of Music for Guitar", Griggs presents a chronological tour of the modern guitarist's repertoire from the Renaissance to the Contemporary, with music by John Dowland, J.S. Bach, Mateo Carcassi, Bartolome Calatuyud, Django Reinhardt and Baden Powell - as well as his own compositions. He also includes some examples of Spanish Flamenco and Brazilian music on the program as well.
