LYRICS
Seemed like a thousand roads were just begging me to make my way
Back when the summers weren't so short
Never thought I'd choose the ones just for the promise they could keep me safe
But I took no risk and I have nothing to report
Nothing's healed in all this time
But you have kept your faith in me
And still say I will shine
Tried to be a martyr 'til you showed me how much love I had
But I had some lessons to unlearn
And I am all but lost when you propose that I consider that
Love is something I can't earn
I sold my soul to buy that line
But you reflect the truth to me
And still say I will shine
Shine, you will be the light that someone needs to find their way
I was taking stock of every precious thing I stood to lose
'Cause I had no faith that they would stay
So I answered every question how I thought they'd want me to
And that's the story, how I ended up this way
But you broke through and changed my mind
You kept the light of hope alive
And that is how I shine

LYRICS
God, are you still listening?
Were you ever really there at all?
Maybe I was wishing
Maybe I was wrong
All of those desperate words I spoke
Are they just falling right back down on me?
When I am calling chaos home
Does it appease me to believe?
God, are you still speaking?
Have I ever really heard your voice?
Was it just something I was needing
To make some sense of all the noise?
I once believed that you were near
Whispering which way was best
But you are not a puppeteer
And I am not your marionette
God, are you awake now?
'Cause I don't know where I belong
I hear my friends tell me to pray now
Well, my prayer is this song
We think we've got you all exposed
But are you doing what we say you?
Is there even one remotely close
Interpretation of you?
Lyrics:
Mary went down to Bethlehem
On the back of a burro down a road made of sand
Joseph in the lead
And he is trying to believe
What he thinks an angel
Told him in his sleep
There's no hotel in Bethlehem
No empty room for a pregnant girl to settle in
Joseph lays his pretty wife down
In the stable, on the ground
And he wonders if he's
Done the best he can
(chorus)
And now the future's coming at him fast
When he becomes responsible for what he did not ask
And this wasn't quite the life that he had planned
You know he cannot help but wonder if
There might be a better man
Mary cries in Bethlehem
And the cries of a newborn baby boy are joining in
He does not have his father's eyes
No, they don't look a thing alike
But Joseph is still holding Mary's hand
(chorus)
Mary went down to Bethlehem
And two years later she comes home to all her friends
Joseph never left her side
The more it hurt, the more he tried
And found some kind of strength
He did not know he had inside
"I wouldn't trade a second of my life
Even though it felt like I was wrong half of the time
Sometimes we just don't get to understand
But somehow holding onto this little child
Has made me a better man
Somehow holding onto Jesus makes me
A better man"

UNTITLED
Take it to the mirror
Where maybe things are clearer
And the faces looking back at you
Don't tell a lie
You think that you have lost her
And you can't refuse the offer
When a man wearing a halo
Looks you square in the eye
Square in the eye, oh
Square in the eye
You said you're on a journey
And you will not be returning
To the wasteland where the skeptics
Hung you out to dry
You said it left you reeling
Well, I recall the feeling
If you want to hit the road
I'm happy to oblige
Happy to oblige
Oh, I, I had no letter to write
'Cause all my letters were light
Sprouted wings and took to flight
With the words right from my skin
I was learning about heaven
When I was only seven
If you wanna get a spot,
You got a lot to hide
I must've learned my lesson
Now I'm always second-guessin'
But it's better than the bullshit
That I used to buy
I used to buy
Oh, I, I had no letter to write
'Cause all my letters were light
Sprouted wings and took to flight
With the words right from my skin
Oh, I, I still want to believe
It might be naive
But I will hold my breath
And wait and see
Oh I, I got the letters you sent
Saying where you went
I'll have a say in how my life is spent
With the words right on my skin
