A long-awaited chance to see New Artica playing my second time (first was Dec. 2007), this time in a 3-group show to launch the weekend, July 25, 2008, at Nightlight, Chapel Hill. This is a favorite, called "A Simple". I've posted seven videos from their set at http://www . youtube . com/betsybetsybetsy , and posted my 2 favorites here. Also playing were Easy Company, and Run Dan Run; -an amazing lineup of great talents. Visit New Artica at http://www . myspace . com/newartica and reverbnation . com/newartica . Tippy-type sweet nothings for their eyes and watch them sparkle. -A gem! For 1300 videos I've shot of groups playing around Chapel Hill, visit the blog(s) at http://www . myspace . com/betsyssmile (900+ videos are on myspace, but now most new postings are to http://www.youtube.com/betsybetsybetsy ). Billy Warden ---at Cat's Cradle's Goodbye&ThankYou show to Schoolkids Records' Chapel Hill location, 4/5/08. Billy and band* were the first to play a show at Schoolkids Records, ...or the first of the shows to perform in the front window, something like 20 years ago. Anyway, not having known of them then, I was glad to have a piece of Chapel Hill music scene recreated now. Here's one of the songs they performed as the opening act at Cat's Cradle (Carrboro NC) that evening.
(* whose names I didn't recall -someone please comment and give me this info! I think his brother, Chris Warden, is on drums. )
Wil Donegan and The Apologies, singing “I Have a Question/ If We Hold On Loosely". Jon Mackey starts out on the small drum set on the left, up front, and switches places mid-way through with Casey Trela, who plays (?) what: an autoharp? a lap harp of some sort? Some lap guitar? Anyway, I love this song, ...or songs; I'm still not sure if it was one or two. The titles are ones I gave it, and Wil Donegan without Apologies, assigns his own names to them, like HeadsofSteel or other nonsense names. The man can write a song, but do not let him name your children. This was from a benefit show at Cat's Cradle, 4/5/08. There was a small crowd because Carolina's basketball game in the NCAA Final Four was beginning in a few minutes. And we ARE in Chapel Hill [grin].
Liz Ross (3)"Sexual Healing", 4/8/08 at Jack Sprat Cafe's open mic. This was her second occasion performing, having debuted the week before at this open mic event. Great voice!
The Nothing Noise played 4/8/08 at Nightlight in Chapel Hill, following the debut of The Chuttesville Speak. Visit http://www.myspace.com/thenothingnoise , http://www.myspace.com/chuttesvillespeak , and http://www.nightlightclub.com/schedule.html . QUALITY ALERT: BTW, for those not already familiar with this venue & my vids/eqpmt, this venue is usually this dark, and most P&S cameras have difficulty. So YES, I DO know these are indiscernible images and an unprofessional microphone! Don't look if it makes you itch. And most of my videos are in this quality category [grin].
