In the history making, final double up run of the Pro Mens finals heat in Reno, Rusty Malinoski landed the first ever 1080 in competition.

The Manhattan Beach, “6-Man”, is one of the craziest events of the summer in the South Bay and continues to get bigger every year.

When asked what Body Glove co-founder Bob Meistrell wanted to do for his birthday, he replied, “I want to dive twice my age to 162 feet. One for me, and one for my brother.” Everyone thought he was crazy, but for Bob, it was just another day he was happy to be on the water.

No surf on the last day of Cheyne Magnusson’s trip to Niijima Island. Yugo Harada, our Japanese marketing guru, knew of a house on the island that had a half-pipe in the backyard. Cheyne definitely wanted to check it out and when he saw it, he didn’t know what to think. Then it was off to Japanese sand mountain surfing with Cheyne’s broken board. Everyone has a go, and everyone got sand in all sorts of places.

The first day of surf was a little rough for Tina, and Cheyne Magnusson was a little too busy ripping for any instructional assistance. So they follow the signs to another empty spot where the waves were better for Tina to try and learn to surf. Especially after a little help from Tetsuo and Cheyne.

After arriving to Niijima Island in Japan, Cheyne Magnusson and crew go to find waves right away. They find a beach with a cool monument, artsy stairs to the sand, and suck-up beach break. Perfect for Tina! After the surf Cheyne and Tina go re-habilitate in the “Street Fighter II” hot springs.

Cheyne Magnusson jet-sets to Tokyo, Japan and meets up with the beautiful Tina Bingham and Japanese team-rider Tetsuo Hosokawa. After getting Tina geared up for a little adventure to Niijima Island it was time to board the hydrofoil ferry. The goal was to escape the city and teach Tina a thing or two about surfing while she teaches us about the Japanese culture.
