This is my constant weight dive to 70m/230ft in a freediving competition which was held in August 2009 (Honaunau, Big Island of Hawai'i). The video was put together from clips shot by Hiko Ito using the GoPro HERO (standard). The HERO is advertised as having a 60m depth limit, but we used one as our bottom camera all the way to 83m with no problems.

In October 2007 my buddy Josh and I visited the Big Island in hopes of doing some serious freediving. We were able to hook up with the hardcore freediving crew over there for a few dives at Honaunau. The conditions and setting were so perfect for diving that we both set new PBs! Josh jumped from 58m to 66m (217ft) in constant weight! I jumped from 44m to 53m (175ft) in free immersion! Can't wait to go back next month!
I was attempting to make a slight improvement to my personal-best depth of 135ft by freediving to 145ft at the buoy off of Diamond Head, but, in spite of a glassy-calm day, a strong tide-driven current thwarted the attempt. I decided to do some free immersion along the buoy chain anyway, and surprised myself by reaching 123.7ft/38m in spite of the unfavorable conditions. Mahalo to Rory, Billy and John for being my safety divers.

In February 2007 I attended the Performance Freediving (intermediate) course held in Kona on the Big Island of Hawai'i, which was a very worthwhile experience. Our open water training took place at Honaunau ("City of Refuge"), a pristine and majestic dive location that many divers around the world yearn for the opportunity to visit. On the last day of the course I bettered my constant weight personal best to 134.9ft, or just over 40m. Yet, I was still able to compensate at that depth, so I don't expect this PB to last for long...
