This is Mamaside! Hiphop in a conscious Motherwell style introduced by Mamelani. The second from our Film in a Week project, directed by 19 year old Akhe Beku, assisted by the collective efforts of the Mandela Bay and MACO teams.
A shout out to the youth of South Africa to remember the struggles of their elders' fight for freedom. Short documentary directed by Nomtha Ntsheyiya during our film in a week project in Port Elizabeth as part of the Swallows Partnership between North East England and the Eastern Cape Province. Devised, shot and edited in 3 days. Respect.
This short documentary was made in a day by young people in Lambeth as part of our Africa Mine film season. One of four produced, this is our favourite, featuring Ghanaian photographer James Barnor.
In 1914 Max Reinhardt's grandmother was secretly married in Lithuania. Once married, she fled to London where she divorced her husband, and began a new life. Last year, Max recreated the wedding in Oxford. Three days later, he turned up at the Signal Box with two DV tapes and three bottles of Lithuanian whisky left over from the party. "Could you edit this, in exchange for this?" he wondered.
This short film is the result. Hear the full story on Radio 4 on Tuesday November 20th at 11.30am.
For those of you who don't know, Max is also part of the Zigurat team behind The Shrine and Radio Gagarin - see links or find them in our top friend list below.

Our friends at Busara Promotions asked if we could help them produce a short film about their 3rd annual festival in February 2006.
We were only to happy to help.
Aubrey and Lisa worked alongside Zanzibar's Dullawise Productions throughout the festival and the result is an electric little film with music from Zanzibar and beyond. Jagwa Music meets the Shrine Synchrosystem, Taffetas meet Makame Faki and everybody's feet meet the dancefloor
A short preview of our new documentary, currently screening at festivals all over the world.
As Old As My Tongue is an intimate portrait of the legendary singer Bi Kidude, probably the oldest performer on the world stage today.
Bi Kidude wins friends wherever she travels but at home in Zanzibar she continually courts controversy, her behaviour challenging perceptions of the role of women in a Muslim society.
As Old As My Tongue reveals the dramatic contrasts in the life of this iconic musician and features a classic soundtrack comprising one hundred years of Swahili music.
