Mayor Byron W. Brown, Senator Charles E. Schumer and Congressman Brian Higgins today announced that $17.6 million in funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act have been approved for the Buffalo Sewer Authority’s planning, design and construction of the Hamburg Drain Control Facility, which collects and processes input from twenty sewer regulators within the Hamburg drain system. The federal stimulus funds will be matched with $8.8 million from the Buffalo Sewer Authority.

United States Senator Charles E. Schumer discussed the state of negotiations with Yahoo to build a new data center in Western New York and detail his conversation with Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz. Yahoo has indicated that it plans to build a new data center, and that it is considering locations in several states.

In its effort to promote renewable energy technologies throughout New York State and in response to Governor Paterson's call to expand New York's renewable energy portfolio, the New York Power Authority today joined with the University at Buffalo to announce a $7.5 million award to the university to construct a 1.1 megawatt solar energy array on UB's North (Amherst) Campus. The solar array, consisting of approximately 5,000 photovoltaic panels, will generate clean energy directly from the sun for students living in UB's apartment complexes.
