"Les années amputées" - Scene 4 -world premiere - Québec City

02:19
this scene is very dear to me. the tenderness each character displays in this early scene is precisely where they return to nearly an hour later. after much venom and energy has been spent. the play is a quiet one -- the tender silences between sentences mean as much as the actual words. such plays no longer seem suitable or tolerated in new york. part of me is very pleased the premiere of this quiet play has taken place in an 400 year old city. a silent, cold neighborhood of quebec so far removed from just about everything imaginable. the performances each night . . . . simply precious.

"Les années amputées" clip 2 - world premiere Québec City 11/07

01:56
This excerpt is from the peak of Scene 7 in my play "Les années amputées" -- or "The Amputated Years" -- from the world premiere in Québec City during November 2007. The translation is by the play's director Jean-Philippe Joubert, directeur artistique of the Québec theatre company -- Les Nuages en pantalon. The play is presented as a work of installation art within a private home in Old Québec City. The two actors featured in this clip are Andreanne Joubert and Olivier Normand. The dialogue is off in this clip because it is an incredibly gruesome moment when the Man and the Woman recount what has led them to their current condition. I chose instead here to dub over some of the original music that fades in and out of the play. I found this original piano compositions by Matthieu Campagna to be very touching. It is a beautiful work. The video design is by Jean-Philippe Joubert and costume/set design by Julie Morel. The play depicts a man and a woman locked in a cyclical progression of eleven scenes. The Belgian artist René Magritte and his series of paintings "Les amantes" served as inspiration during the writing of "The Amputated Years"-- which was begun in 1997 and not completed until 2005

This excerpt is from the end of Scene 7 in "Les années amputées" -- or "The Amputated Years" -- by Brooklyn playwright, Kevin Doyle, from the world premiere in Québec City during November 2007. The translation is by the play's director Jean-Philippe Joubert, directeur artistique of the Québec theatre company -- Les Nuages en pantalon. The play is presented as a work of installation art within a private home in Old Québec City. The two actors featured in this clip are Andreanne Joubert and Olivier Normand; however their dialogue is spoken by two actors off-stage -- Paule Savard and Roland Lepage, respectively. Original sound design & compositions by Matthieu Campagna. Video design by Jean-Philippe Joubert. Costumes by Julie Morel. The play depicts a man and a woman locked in a cyclical progression of eleven scenes. In this clip the Man and the Woman are remembering their own fondest memories of the other -- before they ever entered their current condition.
