Take BART to the KPFA Crafts and Music Fair
December 04, 2007
Looking for one of a kind gifts? Think outside the big box and instead take BART to the KPFA Crafts & Music Fair December 8th and 9th in San Francisco.
Sally Phillips/KPFA Crafts & Music Fair: It's a wonderful opportunity for people to shop for the holidays, and we really think there will be something for everyone at the KPFA Craft Fair.
Musicians like Duarte will provide the soundtrack as you shop. More than 200 artisans, like accessory designer David Hakim, will offer handcrafted gifts. You may find that high quality doesn't necessarily mean a high price tag. "We run the gamut of affordability so there are things that are very affordable things that are very precious. Children can come too. There are a lot of handcrafted clothes for kids so you can get a lot of toys and gifts for children." Think about a green gift. Jenny Hurth recycles discarded signs and banners into eye-catching shopping bags, notepads and other items. And a trip on BART to the KPFA Music Fair could be your holiday gift to Mother Nature. If we can get more people to take BART to the fair, it's a wonderful thing. It cuts down on exhaust fumes and really, BART builds the community together." A free shuttle connects the site of the fair, the Concourse Exhibition Center, with 8th and Market near Civic Center Station. For more information, log on to http://www.kpfa.org/craftsfair/ . At a secret location in East Oakland on Sunday October 7th, Hard Knock Radio, Youth Speaks, Samurai Graphix, and the Eastside Arts Alliance helped organize the First Annual Living Word Graffiti Battle. Legends of the Bay Area scene showed up, and many formal rivals painted side by side. The word chosen for the battle was WORD. These videos document the creative process of urban aerosol artists as they throw down on behalf of the Living Word Festival. Big ups to Estria Miyashiro and Jason Mateo for leading the charge! Video by Weyland Southon.
In the first of a series of KPFA debates, Christopher Hitchens, author of "God is Not Great," and Chris Hedges, author of "American Fascists," debate the world's most divisive issue - religion.
