Tattered Cover on Colfax Avenue is housed in the historic Bonfils-Lowenstein Playhouse between Elizabeth and Columbine Streets. The old theater, abandoned for many years, has now been renovated in keeping with its original glory days and is now a Theater of Ideas, filled with books and magazines, readers and writers from the four corners of the earth. This store, as do our other two locations, also has an internet cafe.
Tattered Cover LoDo occupies the historic Morey Mercantile building dating back to the 1800s when Denver was a dusty Western crossroad. It is now a hub of activity visited by readers and writers from across the country and around the world. Located across the street from Union Station at the corner of 16th and Wynkoop in historic lower downtown Denver, we're easy to find. Come and see us sometime.
Tattered Cover Book Store celebrated the midnight release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on July 20, 2007 with a costume bash that attracted over 4,000 Potter fans to our Denver area stores. At the Colfax store alone we had more than 2000 partying with us, along with Dumbledore, the Portrait of a Fat Lady, Snape, Hagrid, and the Dementors. Bubbling Butter Beer and other edibles were consumed, faces were painted, wands were custom made on a wood lathe, potions were mixed, and photo-ops with Dumbledoor and other characters were only a few of the activities during the evening. Finally, at the stroke of midnight the cartons were unsealed and the books were handed over to the happy Harry Potter fans. What a night!
