I arrived by plane in Chicago at 3:00 in the morning on Saturday June 30, 2007. I rode the Blue Line "L" train (subway) downtown and walked the remaining mile and a half to Navy Pier. People must have thought I was crazy running the length of the pier, in jeans with a sweater tied around my waist, wearing a full backpack with camera in hand. I was afraid I wasn't going to make it. At 5:14AM, the sun broke the horizon over Lake Michigan. This clip offers a small sense of the serenity on the lake that morning. As I sat 1400 miles from home watching the sunrise, I tried to soak in the experience. The camera doesn't do it justice. The view was just so big and bright, so clear and fresh. In the video you hear me jeer to my mother "Made it safely." She wasn't too thrilled about me traveling through downtown Chicago at three in the morning. There are just some things in life that are worth the risk. This was one of them. Enjoy.
