Welcome to Survivor for social change addicts!
Call of the Hummingbird is a Canadian production, shot entirely outdoors at a tri-lingual gathering in rural, central Brazil where magnificent waterfalls tumble down mountains made of crystal.
It is a truly international film about a gathering of 1,000 or so earth-lovers who have come to The Call of the Hummingbird/O Chamado de Beijaflor from all over Latin America (and a smattering from Europe and North America). They are permaculture teachers and rastas, bioregionalists and holistic health-workers, krishnas and NGO executives, student leaders and followers of the Mayan calendar — different groups that don’t usually connect — from the continent’s rich and varied alternative communities.
They have come together to experiment with a new sense of politics that includes politicizing the spiritual, and spiritualizing the political. They plan to live on the land and co-create a temporary peace eco-village in harmony with nature and each other for 13 days.
It turns out that this is no easy task.
