Three groups came together in late September to build a playground at The Salvation Army Mayfair Community Church/Corps Community Center: Discover Financial Services, which donated playground equipment and brought in more than150 volunteers; members of the non-profit KaBOOM!, which builds childrens playgrounds nationwide, and The Salvation Army, playground recipient and host for the day. The Army contributed about 70 volunteers to the building effort.

Mascots from four Chicago-based sports teams and four radio personalities helped The Salvation Army Chicago Metropolitan Division kick off the 71st annual Donut Day campaign to raise funds to help feed the homeless, senior citizens, children, and families in need.
Participating at the James R. Thompson Center Plaza celebration and serving as Donut Day celebrity taggers were John Williams and Leslie Keiling, of WGN 720; John Hultman, of WBBM 780; Joe Soto, of V103; Sky Guy, of the Chicago Sky Womens National Basketball Association; Sparky, of the Chicago Fire Major League Soccer Team; Skates, of the Chicago Wolves Hockey Team; and DIBS, of DePaul University.
Funds raised by the mascots, radio personalities and approximately 600 Donut Day taggers throughout the Greater Chicago area make possible food pantry distributions to individuals and families, childcare nutrition programs, meals for senior citizens, and meals for the homeless.

"Hope Fore Kids Continues to be a first-class golf event that offers fabulous networking opportunities, a chance to entertain existing clients and get to know new ones in a beautiful, relaxing setting. The event consisted of a full day of activities, including auctions, team prizes and contests for the Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin and Hole in One.
The Salvation Army created the "Hope Fore Kids" Golf Classic to raise awareness of and funding for the many needs of Chicago-area children. The Army has a strong tradition of helping deserving kids in needy communities through programs that encourage leadership, develop social skills, boost confidence, teach responsibility and create long- term friendships.
