The Chat Room, uncovers the hidden truths of our own misguided sense of security and privacy while on the computer to the most grisly, vile and demented conclusion. In the society we live today, no one really knows of the suffering that we place on others by our own misguided and unyielding actions of our past. Not until at least, one day, a knock from our past is heard upon our door, its creator seeking to cool their anger and rage by bathing in a pool of our own blood. Only then, when it is too late, do we seem to care. Only then, will retribution be made whole.
Three years ago a young female high school student was vilely raped, tortured and killed in a local park in the early hours of the morning, yet no one, not even the friends she spoke with on a local chat room really seemed to care about her death or the reason why she was killed. Now as all the members of the chat room have become young adults, they begin to receive horrid video clips through the same chat room showing their fellow friends being killed in vile and vicious ways. As the local detectives try to unmask this mad killer, the truth about what might have really happened that night slowly emerges, showing everyone that the thing that individuals of our society care for the most, is our own self-preservation, versus the lives of those we call our closest and dearest friends.
“Creepy. Certainly chat rooms have their dangers, especially if one reveals too much about one's identity. At any rate, mind games. But when web cams are added in and identity and locations known, what a mess, don’t people realize? What makes this novel scary is that many do not seem to; don't realize that they are providing clues onto the Internet about themselves that may last a lifetime, many of those "clues" being explicit information about personal identity. This is a timely topic and it seems to be being handled in a way that may scare some into wise caution.” -- Amazon.com Lead Review
