In partnership with the United States Forest Service (USFS) and NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, marine life artist Wyland and the Wyland Foundation joined kids from the Washington, DC area to celebrate National Get Outdoors Day and World Ocean Day, as well as the launch of an exciting new environmental art and education campaign. Young artists painted a series of ten canvas murals representing watersheds, from the forest to the sea, and issues of climate change. Wyland painted a separate canvas mural featuring Smokey the Bear - ready for the beach in his swim trunks and carrying his mask and snorkel.
Artist Wyland will paint a three-acre image of the planet earth in a 24-hour span on the top of the Long Beach Convention Center for Earth Day. The non-profit project continues the artist’s restoration work on the iconic “Planet Ocean” mural on the arena. Named the world’s largest painting by the Guinness Book of World Records in 1992, the addition of the roof top mural will double the total painted surface, bringing the project to six acres. The project was made possible DisneyNature Studios, SMG, Long Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau, Fredrix Artist Canvas, Astek Wall Covering and the city of Long Beach. Dunn Edwards provided eco-friendly paints for the project.
