http://laughlin.travelnevada.com/ The Colorado river moves at about 7 miles per hour through Laughlin, Nevada. I was told a story of a guy who swam across it and wound up several hundred yards farther downstream than he intended because of how quickly the river moved.

On a cruise upriver from Laughlin, I realized that the river was moving at a pretty good clip. Driving upriver was difficult and very slow, but the downriver trip was much quicker.

The Colorado River, the lowest point around Laughlin, is at 500 feet elevation. The top of the surrounding valley is at 3,500 feet. That is quite a climb to go into or get out of the valley.

Papillon Grand Canyon Helicopters takes riders from the Boulder City Airport, just south of Las Vegas, and flies them over the Grand Canyon. Several different tours are available. This ride shows Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, the Colorado River's entry into Lake Mead, and the west end of the Grand Canyon. It also lands in the Grand Canyon to have a small meal before heading back.

As part of a helicopter tour with Papillon Grand Canyon Helicopters out of Boulder City, Nevada, we landed in the west end of the Grand Canyon and spent a few minutes admiring the Colorado River below.

http://lasvegas.travelnevada.com/ The thrill ride X-Scream at the Stratosphere Tower on the Las Vegas Strip as a coaster that shoots riders over the edge of the over-1,000 foot high tower and hangs them there.

Soaring NV is the newest glider company in Minden. I went on what they call the Tahoe Thriller with them on November 13, 2008. The ride was amazing. We took off from the Minden Airport and immediately made the short flight out to Lake Tahoe. There we released from the tow plane and glided over South Lake Tahoe for a while before heading back toward the Carson Valley and Minden. On the way we did some acrobatics. It really was a thriller.
