Downtown Oklahoma City will rock on New Year’s Eve as revelers welcome in 2009 at Opening Night. Event co-chairs Sharon Johnson and Daniel Adams have organized a celebration with music, dancing, theatre, and fireworks! Since 1987, Opening Night has been the way to ring in the New Year. Opening Night is Wednesday, December 31st from 7:00 p.m.-Midnight in 10 venues around Downtown. More than 25 performers, including Oklahoma’s best and brightest stars like Edgar Cruz (guitar), Son del Barrio (salsa), Boru’s Ghost (Celtic), Everybody and Their Dog (improv), and Lemma (rock) will entertain all night long. The Children’s Area returns to the Cox Convention Center, and will offer face painting, an inflatable obstacle course, family-friendly performances, and hands-on craft activities. The countdown to midnight in Kerr Park will be loaded with entertainment. The Wise Guys will play all your favorite oldies rock songs in the hours leading up to midnight. As the magical hour approaches, revelers will enjoy special finale music as the traditional Opening Night ball rises and the fireworks explode to mark the start of 2009.
