A little background on this video is a must. A warning to the overly sentimental or to those that are related to me, this one has some serious heart strings attached and it even got me feeling overly sentimental on occasion while I was editing it. The song is This Day which is a song about relishing your memories, as well as cherishing where you are right now in this exact moment in time. There will be no other day like today. Even in the potentially monotonous doldrums of day to day life, everyday is a unique gift. Today is tomorrows yesterday and if you want your memories and reflections to be pleasurable tomorrow, then the weight falls on you to make the most of what you have today. Thats essentially the gist of the tune. The video.. This is where things get emotional; the video is footage that my grandfather filmed at our family summer home in Tennessee. Everyone in this video is a relative or a very dear friend of the family and the depths to the memories that are represented are intense to say the least. For me personally there were no other images that fit more perfectly to this particular song. I come from a very large family with a rather long history and I am so thankful that this footage exists and that I can celebrate it in this way. My grandparents, my great grandparents, my great aunts and uncles are all in this footage and to this end I thank my grandfather for breaking out the super 8 and forcing everyone to parade past the camera as he so obviously did. At the time, it may have seemed forced or contrived but I can honestly attest as someone that never met many of these people; I am extremely grateful that he made the most of that particular day when the family had gathered together and made these films. Now the song and the images are yours. Make your today just as special as these yesterdays.
