The Chelsea's mailboxes were located behind the front desk and made just the right impression on countless guests until April Fools morning 2009 when the Chelsea's "New Management" began to destroy these historic boxes with buzzsaws and hammers as horrified guests and tenants watched from beyond the reception desk. In this two minute video we see a brief interview with Arnold Tamasar who prefers to taunt and casts insults instead of responding to a relatively simple question: Why destroy the Guest Boxes? The answer to the question is just as simple: No Guest Boxes = No New Tenants.
On April Fools Day 2009 the Chelsea's "New Management" pranked the Hotel's history with buzzsaws and hammers as horrified guests and tenants watched from just beyond the reception desk. Here's a brief interview with the Chelsea's Chief of Engineering Larry McLaughlin who, as you can see, isn't quick to take responsibility for the decision to destroy the beloved Guest Boxes.
As promised, here is one of several vids documenting the wanton demolition of the Chelsea's historic Guest Boxes by stakeholder David Elder and his manager-by-default, Arnold Tamasar. The Chelsea's guest boxes were located behind the front desk and represented the Hotel's resident Community, and also made just the right visual impression on hundreds of thousands of incoming guests. But that all changed on April Fools morning 2009 when the Chelsea's "New Management" began to hack these historic boxes to pieces with buzzsaws and hammers as horrified guests and tenants watched from beyond the reception desk. In this brief video we see the mailboxes as they are pried from the spot they occupied since at least the 1940s.
Check this out Bardistas - the Hotel Chelsea's "Toilet Guru" (credit the NY Observer) makes his move on the Pro-Bard banner line! Bard Humbug! Of course, Arnold Tamasar is taking the law in own hands instead of waiting until the Department of Buildings hearing scheduled for June 11th, 2009. It's not an issue you or rookie Patrolmen to decide, Mr. Tamasar! As you will see in this short video, the Hotel's fake management and "security" call the Police Department once again to enforce their policies of Harassment. In videos and pictures to follow, Mr. Tamasar convinces NYPD Officer Bubrowiecki that tenants who do not have doors are not allowed to use their balconies for any reason -- which may come as a great shock to innumerable residents past and present, as well as tourists who will now have the Police called on them, presumably, if they step outside for fresh air. An Internal Affairs investigation has been launched into the collusive relationship between Hotel management, the Hotel "security" staff, and Officers of the 10th Precinct.
The first of several videos we'll post documenting the spiteful demolition of the Chelsea Hotel's historic Guest Boxes, formerly located directly behind the front desk. On April Fools Day 2009 the Hotel's bumbling "New Management" team began to destroy these guest boxes with buzzsaws and hammers as horrified guests and tenants watched from the reception area. In this brief video we see the vacant space where the Hotel Guest Boxes had been, and some random ephemera found beneath them. Ironically, a few of those were programmmes for the Broadway show "Movin' Out". Thats what New Management wants all residents to do eventually, so they no longer have to answer questions about how they plan to further wreck our most cherished traditions.
Striking a blow for their Anti-Bard cabal, the Chelsea's makeshift management Andrew Tilley (RESIGNED) and Arnold Tamasar forced out a long term tenant with a huge lawsuit, then assigned a two man crew to obliterate her contribution to the BRING BACK THE BARDS protest! We got some pictures of it as "Toilet Guru" Arnold Tamasar, feeling full of anti-Stanley vinegar, stood on 23rd St and photographed "the Evidence" -- whatever that is. The two doing Tamasar's dirty work are outstanding guys, of course--its their job to wield the razor blades--but its worth pointing out that the vacated apartment remains empty, unlettable, generating no revenue, and with an illegal demolition site next door that sits under a full Stop Work Order. Irrationally, Krauss and Elder blame their troubles on Pro-Bard activists whose peaceful demonstrations you see being hacked up in this short video, but conveniently forget to mention that they and the architects they employed filed falsified applications for construction permits, and drew up plans (see picture gallery) which prove they intended to violate those permits even before they were applied for. Not to mention these hugely disruptive demolitions are part of a longstanding regimen of harassment against Pro-Bard tenants. The Bard Family never experienced such difficulty making necessary renovations at the Hotel Chelsea. Since New Management took over, there have been a minimum of three Stop Work Orders levied by the City of New York. At some point, Elder and Krauss should stop to ask if the problem lies with t-h-e-m.
Striking a blow for their Anti-Bard cabal (primarily David Elder & Marlene Krauss) the Chelsea's makeshift management team evicted a rent-stabilized tenant by taunting her with a huge lawsuit, then assigned a two man crew to obliterate her contribution to the BRING BACK THE BARDS protest! We got pictures of it as Tamasar, feeling full of anti-Bard vinegar, stood on 23rd St and photographed "the Evidence" -- whatever that is. As a testiment to management's ineptitude, the vacated apartment still remains barren, unlettable, generating no revenue, and right next door to the illegal demolition of Bob Dylan's apartment, which sits under a full Stop Work Order. Irrationally, Krauss and Elder blame their troubles on Pro-Bard activists whose peaceful demonstrations you see being hacked up in this short video, but they forget to mention that New Management and the architects they employed filed falsified applications for construction permits, and drew up plans (see picture gallery) which prove they intended to violate those permits even before they were applied for. That's fraud! Not to mention these hugely disruptive demolitions were being as part of a longstanding campaign of harassment against Pro-Bard tenants. BRING BACK THE BARDS!
No Scruples, Seeks Pupils: The Chelsea's "Toilet Guru" (to quote the NY Observer) was spotted holding court on 23rd Street putting virtually every employee of the Hotel through the paces of a no doubt pointless exercise; Hey Arnold, pay attention! Except for a few new hires, these folks you supposedly instruct have been running the Hotel Chelsea since you were in diapers. What could you possibly have to teach them? From the look of this video you seem to have more questions than you've got answers. We did hear that Hotel employees picked up some overtime here which has got to be welcome since several Bard Family staff members have been laid off, cut back, and just plain terminated by Tamasar and the gone-but-not-soon-forgotten Tweedledum who hired him, Andrew Tilley.
Ever since David Elder admitted he paid goons to jump a tenant in the lobby last year, the Hotel has been paying tens of thousand$ to maintain his dull charade that "Security" is actually needed at the Chelsea; Sid killed Nancy in the late 70s and in between the Chelsea has been the scene of shootings, more stabbings, suicides, fires, floods and worse yet never needed a "Security" squad to stalk residents and their guests until David Elder arrived and decided to pay others to settle problems he and his laywers weren't qualified to settle in Landlord/Tenant Court. One thing, though, couldn't Elder at least get them to take their smoke breaks somewhere other than in the Hotel's front door? Are these overweight eyesores and their cancer-inducing cigarette smoke drawn to the Chelsea's entranceway like moths to a flame, or do they just not care how bad it looks? Stanley would have had their asses. Don't worry, Mr. New Security Guy, you're just one in a long line of cash-fed goons to tarnish the Hotel's reputation since the Bard Family was pushed aside in favor of fast-shrinking revenues and neverending litigation. Having said that, its a little bizarre how he's rocking back and forth as he sucks away on that Marlboro, man.
This short video says it all about New Management at the Chelsea Hotel. Notice the several construction permits hanging in the 23rd Street window, all of them obtained fraudulently, and resulting in the illegal demolition of Bob Dylan's former residence, Stop Work Orders, and fines. Now beneath them is what was left of the rooftop's lovely summer rose garden, sabotaged in retaliation by New Management when their fraudulent permits were exposed by tenant activists. Tit for tat is one thing. Destroying 125 years of history out of spite is quite another. BRING BACK THE BARDS!
On December 1, 2008, at least two anonymous calls were made to the NYC Department of Buildings. The caller reported that "occupants" of the legendary Hotel Chelsea had violated building codes by maintaining a roof garden -- a roof garden, mind you, that has been a constant source of inspiration and private relaxation to Chelsea residents for over 125 years. Simultaneously, "New Management", then led by recently resigned Andrew Tilley, was actively harassing the owner of El Quijote Restaurant (also a Chelsea tenant) by using -- what else? -- anonymous calls to the Department of Buildings! That's some coincidence! Now, we all know that Mr. Tilley and his underling Arnold Tamasar made the reports to put pressure on upper floor residents, and have actually spread the illogical rumor that it was Pro-Bard Family activists who made the cowardly reports --AS IF THAT MAKES A BIT OF SENSE, you numbskulls. While we obtain the audio-recorded reports to DOB through the Freedom Of Information Act, why don't you check out this short video where you can see some of the destruction to our late friend, the painter and nightclub impresario Arthur Weinstein's beautiful rose garden that was formerly located on the north west corner of the Hotel. Now, it is no more. As a final indignity, one of his carefully pruned bushes winds up smashed on Twenty Third Street. It has a new home, however, back inside the Chelsea's walls, and if its possible to resussitate this bush it will be used to christen the rebirth of the Chelsea roof gardens upon the Bard Family's inevitable return.

In this two minute video recently-promoted "Bathroom Elegance Officer" Arnold Tamasar fills in for Andrew Tilley, with the ink barely dry on the latter's resignation. Tamasar, who has called the NYPD on a 75 year old man sick in bed, produces a signed waiver that tenant Vieri Tucci insists is falsified. After all, he had no intention of checking out and used a credit card that Tamasar was not disputing he had charged in full. Tamasar just wanted him OUT and by misusing Police resources he accomplished just that. We're all certain the Tamasar family is very proud.
The Chelsea Hotel is an historically Landmarked building but unfortunately, only the brick and iron facade of the building is protected by the Landmark status. The interior of the Chelsea, where so much rich history has taken place, is less well protected however proper permits are required to make significant renovations. In this video, we see the Chelsea's "Toilet Specialist", Arnold Tamasar and "Chief of Engineering" Larry McLaughlin who each insist that the unauthorized demolition work occurring in Bob Dylan's former residence is being done legally. "You don't have to answer to him, Larry," Tamasar is heard saying as he sticks a recorder in the tenant's face, "He's a nobody." Of course, there were no permits, they were not telling the truth, and the next morning a full Stop Work Order was slapped on by the Department of Buildings (see pictures). Before the work site was shut down by inspectors, though, hazardous dust debris had already coated several tenants' apartments on the same airshaft, costing the Hotel thousands of dollars in cleanup. And the noise was so extreme that it could be heard throughout the ten floors of the Hotel. As of this blog entry, Bob Dylan's apartment, #211, where he wrote several iconic songs, now sits gutted and unable to be let. It is interesting to note that following this impromptu interview, Arnold Tamasar told NYPD officers that he had been threatened by the tenant. What threats? Just questions they didn't want to answer. Full coverage ran in the New York Post and on Fox News. The story broke first on the Living With Legends blog.
Some will recall late last year when it was VOGUE Magazine's esteemed fashion photographer Terry Richardson who Arnold Tamasar was trying to evict from the Hotel Chelsea -- after he'd paid in full for the shoot rental. Now Tamasar, recently promoted to 'Manager by Default', spreads his wings and succeeds in illegally evicting 75 year old Vieri Tucci, who like VOGUE had also paid in full. Mr. Tamasar suddenly realized if the man stayed just one more day he'd be virtually impossible to throw out. So Tamasar did what any slumlord would do, he called the NYPD! Although the cops later scold Tamasar for evicting an elderly man, you can observe the cockiness in their attitude, as well as Tamasar's as he snaps photographs of tenant activists and demands Tucci checks out within just a couple of hours. Completely unethical as well as illegal, and a good example of New Management's true objectives, but 100% par for the course since the Bard Family's departure from day to day operations of the Chelsea Hotel.
Here we see 'Manager by Default' Arnold Tamasar pressing the NYPD to evict a 75 year old man from the Chelsea; the man, Mr. Tucci, was a paying customer, physically ill, and not a threat to anyone except minority shareholders David Elder and Marlene Krauss' desire to rid the Hotel the long term residents that have historically been its lifeblood. This gentleman and his many belongings had been in his apartment for 29 days. You do the math.
In this seven minute video, disgraced manager Andrew Tilley's recently promoted "Restroom Elegance Officer" Arnold Tamasar puts his plunger down long enough to evict 75 year old Vieri Tucci from the Hotel Chelsea for the sole purpose of preventing him from becoming a legal resident. Mr. Tucci had paid his Hotel bill in full, his credit card was charged, but when Tamasar finally did the math and realized Tucci would be staying longer than 30 days (automatically making him a legal resident), Tamasar called the New York City Police Department and, like Andrew Tilley before him, misused taxpayer resources to harass Chelsea tenants into leaving their homes. Though he insisted on staying, Mr. Tucci was given a refund for the days he had coming and was forced to evacuate his apartment in just over three hours, while physically ill and while being verbally goaded by Arnold Tamasar, of whom the NYPD officers later asked, "You're REALLY going to evict a 75 year old man?"
When Fox New's Toni Senecal showed up to find out why Bob Dylan's former residence was being gutted without legal permits, disgraced manager Andrew Tilley and 'Chief of Engineering' Larry McLaughlin had her and her cameraman tossed in the street. Then they called the Cops! Here, Tilley justifies his actions to the NYPD while Fox News cameraman continues rolling. If Tilley was ready for his closeup we'll never know -- he resigned.
Because disgraced former manager Andrew Tilley discontinued use of the Hotel Chelsea's historic fireplaces, we can't even use the rubble that was our rooftop garden santuary to keep warm this winter! Instead its off to the landfill, and with it decades of Chelsea tenants' blood, sweat and tears. Was all this really necessary, Andrew? In Tilley's absence, his former underling and "Bathroom Specialist" Arnold Tamasar carries out the dirty deed of destroying the Chelsea's rooftop, a constant source of inspiration in this artist community for 125 years.
Seen here in this short video is the result of Andrew Tilley and "Restroom Elegance Officer" Arnold Tamasar's anonymous reports to the City of New York, declaring that the Chelsea's rooftop gardens, a staple of bohemian life for 125 years, were causing structural damage. Hooey! Today, February 18th, 2009, the rooftop trees were chainsawed, dragged to the street and thrown out with the trash. Its officially wintertime, but because New Management refuses to let Chelsea tenants use their fireplaces -- also staples of Chelsea life for over a century -- we won't even be needing those trees as firewood!
