RECORDING THE SAX SOLO ON 'CHUI BAY PT. I' - FROM THE UPCOMING ALBUM "IN TOO DEEP"
Peter Lund from PLG Media in Sweden and his camera crew Kim and Alex dropped by Bach Recording in Copenhagen a couple of weeks ago, capturing me while dubbing the sax solo on 'Chui Bay'... A track from the upcoming album "In Too Deep", this is the first tune I composed for the new album, back in Dec. 2008... it depicts the magnificent view over the water from Tim's old place beside the Irish Pub in Dar Es Salaam.
My friends B, Nishit and Sabrina hooked me up big time by finding awesome digs (thanks Tim) where I could spend a memorable month writing music... enjoying Jackson's cooking and the way he ironed my shirts with love even though I wasn't going any further than the upstairs terrace, where I'd spend the day working in the east african sunshine and warmth - a welcome contrast to the December darkness of Denmark. Bumped into my pal Ibu at the Irish, he was also a fugitive from the danish winter...
This portion of the track is Chui Bay by day... Part 2 is Chui Bay by night, as the idyllic magic of the day can turn somewhat funky after dark. While from my experience I wouldn't exactly call the place dangerous, I'd still wager if you take a stroll along the beach at night, there's probably a 40% chance of meeting someone who needs that iPhone in your pocket more than you do, and who will kindly ask that you hand it over... So dress down and empty your pockets before you head out... TZ friends, correct me if I'm mistaken ;-)
Just a rough mix of the track... danish über guitarist Troels Skovgaard stopped by the studio earlier this week and made my heart melt with his fantastic playing, recorded by engineer Henning Hansen - managed to slip T's guitar in the mix, panned over to the right and dry as a bone... Grab those headphones, enjoy the music, stay tuned for more and please feel free to let this vid clip proliferate throughout the internet...
Thanks,
Bobby
