The Spongetones play "Back in the USSR" during the legendary WCNC sessions in 1980.
At the time, they were a British Invasion cover band but went on to record 12 albums of original music.
In December 1980 the Spongetones were a popular cover band that had just released their first single with original songs. Only days before John Lennon was murdered a local television station had completed a short news item on the Spongetones. Only hours after his murder a reporter interviewed the Spongetones about John's death. That was interviewed was added at the end of the Spongetones report.
