In early 2007 came news reports of a so called terrorist organisation named the Cornish National Liberation Army [CNLA], claiming responsibility for making threats to celebrity chefs Rick Stein and Jamie Oliver in Padstow, whilst also claiming arson attacks on I believe, two buildings. As time went on, it was being mooted among some activists that the CNLA was the either the brainchild of the establishment, created to blacken the name of the Cornish movement, or that of an individual crank. Whoever it was, tensions were beginning to rise.
I decided to seize the initiative, and in the summer of that year set up a web page stating that as from now, the CNLA was my responsibility and would be used to promote Cornish issues only through Culture and the Arts. This was made crystal clear on a new website I had built under the name of Campaign Cornwall. Being a professional entertainer and songwriter, I launched the site with a comedic parody of a song by the American group "Village People" and their worldwide hit Y.M.C.A. calling it C.N.L.A. Again the lyrics promoted nothing but peaceful actions. What happened next though, was far from peaceful.
At approximately 7:40am on the 6th of September 2007, my wife and I were awakened by a fourteen-man armed police unit. I was ordered from my bed, handcuffed and arrested on suspicion of being in pocession of a firearm with intent to use, or threaten violence. Without going into detail of this extremely traumatic experience and violation of my privacy, this ludicrous saga was brought to an end no less than five months later, when all investigations were halted. I received no apology but did claim compensation for items not returned and loss of earnings.
The Establishment did'nt like it, but it seems you do. I am forever being asked to post this again, so there here it is.
