This is a sneak behind-the-scenes peek at how the album was created:
The new album 'We Are' was written using a unique songwriting process that culminated into Digging Roots' 'The Song Lines Project'. It is based on the Anishinabek practice of song creation and composition. This traditional method draws inspiration from the rise and fall of the contours of the tree lines / horizon lines to guide melody and rhythmic movement into songwriting melodies, rhythm, chord movement and form.
By exploring traditional Anishinabek cultural techniques as a springboard for modern songwriting Kanatakta and Kish have collected over one thousand pictures throughout their travels of horizons / tree lines, studying the land and its relationship to their work as contemporary artists. Unearthing a dynamic array and study of opposing forces; new and old, traditional and contemporary; feminine and masculine; earthy and ethereal; organic and synthetic; sacred and sexual; to transcend all language barriers. Check out the special video that's been hiding in the Digging Roots vault explaining the 'Song Lines' process!
