KIDDYCAR - Sunlit Silence - RAITRADE 2009
Twelve songs for an intimate, solemn journey through a disc that is at the same time both shadowy and polychrome; a journey where the listener moves lightly between music and lyrics that conjure up ecstatic and contemplative dimensions, small obsessions that are always just about to escape from the lips, and dreams that enchant and dissolve through the eyes of a child. A disc sustained by sophisticated rhythms produced by a minimal and selective use of electronics, which centres on a use of sequences that are the result of a thorough exploration of the sounds of the 70s and 80s.
Great emphasis is placed on the compositional aspect in Sunlit Silence, both in terms of harmony and melody: an interweaving of notes that is never elusive, but timely and effective, notes that gracefully break the silence in many and different ways. References and citations that fluctuate in space and time with surprising ease, where Kraftwerk-style sequences meet and envelop guitars à la Morricone, or classical-based cello and piano riffs slide towards cymbals and Seventies pop-style guitars, while Valentina Cidda’s voice is the constant thread, winding its way through the entire disk in an evocative, whispered style that lightly traces boundaries and, with equal delicacy, breaks them.
The result of a full year's work, this album was created under a “famished sky swaying above the abyss", in a “sunlit silence” which, interrupted and traversed by these twelve tracks, finally turns into the light and haunting sound of rain that remains at the end of the journey.
