I filmed this at the 2004 NAS Oceana airshow. It was an F-18F
doing a high speed pass. He DID NOT break the sound barrier.
The vapor cone is called the Prandtl-Glauert condensation cloud.

He came very close, but if he broke it, the sound would have been more immense. and agreeing with party boy, for a sonic boom to break class, you'd need to be right on top of a car..
