Description:
Between the end of October and the beginning of November the traditional Day of the Dead is celebrated in most parts of Mexico.
In the village of Atzompa, a few miles away from Oaxaca, the indios zapotecos gather at the graveyard bringing food, photos, alcohol, cigarettes and whatever the dead liked, spending all night awaiting the homecoming of the souls of their own beloved.
Via a dialogue of images of the festivity and Aztec and Spanish accounts of the Mexican Conquest, the performance of the “Fiesta de los Muertos” takes place, a syncretic blend of pre-Hispanic traditions and catholic believes.
