Gus doc­u­ments Gus Tor­re­grossa, a beloved, Mafia-​es­que fig­ure in the world of hip-​hop and the Ital­ian com­mu­ni­ty in St. Louis. While shoot­ing the film, Gus and his shoe and cloth­ing store were fac­ing the prospect of be­ing pushed from the gar­ment dis­trict due to the re-​de­vel­op­ment of the area in­to up­scale lofts, restau­rants, and shops. For the past 20+ years, Gus' store has been a stop­ping point for rap­pers from Fla­va-​Flav, Easy E, Kid-​n-​Play, Tu­pac Shakur on up re­cent­ly through Nel­ly. Gus runs his store with the al­ways in­ter­est­ing Jim­my, af­fec­tion­ate­ly known as "Jim­my the Midget," whom Gus took un­der his wing more than 20 years ago. “Gus" won the award for Best Bi­og­ra­phy in the 2004 New York In­ter­na­tion­al In­de­pen­dent Film and Video Fes­ti­val and went on to play in Los An­ge­les as part of the same fes­ti­val.
