Description:

Director's Synopsis: Birth: it’s a miracle. A rite of passage. A natural part of life. But more than anything, birth is a business. Compelled to find answers after a disappointing birth experience with her first child, actress Ricki Lake recruits filmmaker Abby Epstein to examine and question the way American women have babies. The film interlaces intimate birth stories with surprising historical, political and scientific insights and shocking statistics about the current maternity care system. When director Epstein discovers she is pregnant during the making of the film, the journey becomes even more personal. Should most births be viewed as a natural life process, or should every delivery be treated as a potentially catastrophic medical emergency?

I believe more women should try to have their babies natural. It's a better experience and women have been doing it since the dawn of time. That's what are designed to do! I gave birth to both of mine naturally with midwife and it was the best experinceof my life!<3

Any woman interested in taking an active role in her birth experience must see the film. Any man or partner interested in taking an active role in the birth of their child should also see the movie. Fascinating and imperatively relevant to all!

I saw The Business of Being born in LA, and it was very informative. Ricki and Abby have fulfilled their goal of empowering women by letting them no they have choices as to how they decide to give birth. Thanks for posting.
