'Gala­pa­gos' was orig­i­nal­ly writ­ten to be en­tered in­to the 2006 BBC new tal­ent com­pe­ti­tion in con­junc­tion with the BBC's Nat­u­ral His­to­ry Unit.
The mu­sic is in four parts fol­low­ing a brief syn­op­sis:
Act 1 de­vel­ops a sig­na­ture theme which in­tro­duces the Gala­pa­gos Is­lands with a sense of awe, mys­tique and won­der.
Act 2 es­tab­lish­es the key Gala­pa­gos char­ac­ters with fresh vigour and pace, flow­ing on nat­u­ral­ly from Act 1.
Act 3, with gen­tle pac­ing -​ per­haps with a cul­tur­al twist -​ shows charm, tex­ture, in­tam­i­cy and in­her­ent beau­ty of the wildlife in Gala­pa­gos.
Act 4 is the dra­mat­ic con­clud­ing wildlife spec­ta­cle which gath­ers mo­men­tum and ul­ti­mate­ly reach­es a ti­tle cli­max.
