Nine-year old Marisa is the youngest of four generations of women cooking Great Grandmother's Empañada recipe for deep-fried fruit pies. Marisa’s Mother, Samantha and Aunt, Margarita have agreed with their Mother, Cynthia slow down their lives to engage Great-grandmother Carmen, to teach them her traditional recipe for Empañada. Something they’ve not done in all their years of growing up in the city.
