Description:
Mark Reinhart: I am a longtime Batman fan and author of the book THE BATMAN FILMOGRAPHY (McFarland and Company, 2004). While researching my book, I pored over the details of all of the character’s live-action big screen appearances from the 1940’s up until the present day. As much as I have enjoyed watching these films, I never really felt like any of them captured “my” Batman – that is, the way I thought the character should be portrayed in a live-action movie.
I got to thinking that with all of the technology we have now like digital video cameras, video editing software, and multi-track home sound recording studios, a Batman fan could bring their own live-action version of the character to life on the screen relatively easily. So with my sons Taylor and Keaton, that is just what I’ve done – the end result of our efforts is BATMAN: WATCHING OVER GOTHAM.
This film’s Batman is drawn far more from my favorite Batman work of all time, the 1999 oversized graphic novel BATMAN: WAR ON CRIME written by Paul Dini and illustrated by Alex Ross, than from any previous screen version of the character. There are no elaborate fight scenes or high-speed car chases featuring the Batmobile – I wanted to simply focus on the idea of Batman watching over his city, as well the notion that maybe just his very presence there would be enough to stop some crimes before they were actually committed. Thanks for watching!
