I discovered the Delaware River red breasted sunfish spawning grounds in a tributary of a tributary. Went ultralight jigging there yesterday evening during the 2024 May full moon spawn. Caught and released 80 red breasted sunfish, 4 black crappies and a bluegill with 1” twister tails on a gold 1/64 oz shad dart and 2 lb test line. Saw a big bass go after my lure, but there was no hookup. Mosquitoes 🦟 were biting.

Caught nothing in Manasquan Inlet this afternoon, then caught and released a brown bullhead and redeared slider in 86 degree Robert G Martin Lake this evening.

Made another saltwater/freshwater doubleheader today. Air temp was 74 degrees when I left Bordentown and 62 degrees at Manasquan Inlet. Everyone said that nothing was biting. I fished in the inlet with a plain hook Ava A-17 and two teaser rig for two hours on the incoming tide. Everybody stayed away from me. Caught, tagged then released a 25” 4.5 lb bluefish with my brother John’s homemade synthetic black and white buck tail before catching, tagging and releasing a 20” 2.5 lb fluke with the Ava. As I was preparing to leave, two guys from Neptune, NJ, arrived, then interviewed me for their podcast. They know Captain Joe Horvath who has the same name as my brother and caught a striped bass that I tagged back in the good old days. Went carping in 86 degree Robert G Martin Lake this evening on a hot, sunny day with a light southeast wind. Caught a common carp and 4 brown bullheads with Happy Harvest canned corn bait. One of the catfish was hooked with all three hooks of my triple threat rig.

Went carping in 78 degrees Robert G Martin Lake this evening on a hot, sunny day with a light northeast wind. Threw out corn for chum, then caught 7 brown bullheads and a common carp with canned whole kernel corn.

Went carping in 71 degree Robert G Martin Lake this evening in the rain. Threw out corn for chum, then hooked a carp that swam into a tree, then escaped with two of my hooks. Landed a redeared slider on my last cast of the day with canned whole kernel corn bait on 12 lb test line. Saw a sandpiper flying over the lake.

Went carping in the 68 degree Millstone River on the north shore in Plainsboro, NJ, this evening on a cool, cloudy day with a light south wind. Threw out corn 🌽 for chum, then caught and released a 16” channel catfish with canned whole kernel corn on 12 lb test line. Saw an adult bald eagle 🦅 chasing an osprey. A few carp were jumping. Lots of weeds are in the river. Only saw two fishermen.

Went carping in 64 degrees Carnegie Lake this evening during a nor’easter. Only saw 3 other fishermen. Threw out corn for chum, then caught a common carp and redeared slider with canned whole kernel corn 🌽 bait.

Went fishing 🎣 in Manasquan Inlet this evening during a nor’easter gale in the rain on the outgoing tide. Saw bluefish and a skate caught while getting ready to go fishing. Nobody was near my spot on the jetty. After I caught, tagged, then released a 31” 9 lb bluefish with a diamond jig, two fishermen were to the left of my spot and 4 fishermen were to the right of my spot. I went further out on the jetty past everyone but two fishermen followed me, then started fishing 🎣 to my left and right. The guy to my right started casting across my spot and to my left. Didn’t get a hit or see a fish 🐟 get caught after that. Saw a school of spawning blackfish jump out of the inlet. The wind nearly blew me away when I walked back to my car to go home. Got wet.

Went fishing 🎣 in Manasquan Inlet this evening on the outgoing tide in the rain during a small craft advisory south wind. An old guy was fishing to the left of my spot. Saw three fishermen catch a small bluefish further out on the jetty before the fisherman to my left caught and released a big bluefish on a plug. After a lot of fishermen started fishing 🎣 to my right, I went out towards the end of the jetty. A young fisherman hooked a 35.5” striped bass with a plastic minnow in the ocean and I let his friend use my gaff to land it. After he threw it into the inlet, I caught, tagged and released a 33” 15.5” girth bluefish with my brother John’s very old prism taped diamond jig. I’m applying for a NJ Skillful Angler Recognition Award 🥇.

Went fishing 🎣 in Manasquan Inlet this evening on a cool sunny day with a strong south wind and low tide. Saw 3 big bluefish caught while walking to my spot. I caught, tagged and released 6 bluefish to 31” on a spoon and plain hook Ava A-17. A very big bluefish made a long run out the inlet, then cut off my rig in the rocks. Another bluefish bit off my Ava rig. The bluefish stole three of my rigs the past two days.

Went fishing 🎣 in Manasquan Inlet this evening on a cold, cloudy day with light north wind and incoming tide. Saw a big bluefish caught when I parked my car. Nobody was near my spot. Caught, tagged and released a 23” bluefish with my brother John’s homemade synthetic pink homemade buck tail teaser on my fifth cast of the day. Then a bluefish bit off my rig. Three people arrived and started fishing to my left and one of the local regulars started fishing to my right. We had three big bluefish hookups simultaneously. I caught, tagged and released my biggest bluefish for this year at 31” 9.10 lb with a plain hook Ava A-17. Missed a fluke and lost a bluefish then quit early because of the intruders. Birds were working the mouth of the inlet.

Went ultralight jigging in the 64 degree Delaware River behind Arm and Hammer ballpark in Trenton, NJ, this afternoon on the incoming tide and caught nothing. Then went carping in the 64 degree Millstone River on the north shore in Plainsboro, NJ, this evening. Caught and released a channel catfish with canned whole kernel corn 🌽 bait on 12 lb test line.

Went ultralight jigging in the 60 degree Delaware River behind Arm and Hammer ballpark in Trenton, NJ, this afternoon on the incoming tide in the cold rain for the first time this year. Saw two spin out accidents on Route 129 before the tunnel while driving to my spot. Lots of fish 🐠 were jumping out of the river. Only one boat was there. A hen mallard swam nearby with 10 ducklings. Caught and released a fallfish before catching, tagging and releasing a striped bass with a 1/32 oz chartreuse leadhead jig on 4 lb test line. Took lots of pictures. Didn’t see another fisherman.
